Pyrimidine antimetabolite used for colon, rectum, gastric, pancreatic and breast cancer.
- Inhibits thymidylate synthase which prevents DNA and RNA synthesis. Enhanced by addition of leucovorin.
Side-effects:
- mucositis, diarrhea from epithelial cell turnover.
- hand-foot syndrome
- myelosuppression less with continuous infusions
